ADX40-TBA major impediment to the development of an effective TB vaccine is the fact that many patients are immunocompromised by the disease itself, concurrent HIV infection, malnutrition or a combination of these factors. The ability to elicit specific immunity to TB-associated antigens in such immunocompromised populations is a key goal of vaccine development, but this is very difficult to achieve with traditional adjuvants such as alum. In preclinical models of immunocompromised status (e.g. CD4 depletion), ADX40 has been shown to promote antibody responses against conjugated TB antigens to a greater extent than likely competitor adjuvants. |
